Serving the Comox Valley

About Courtenay Tree Removal

Courtenay Tree Removal works across 4 permit desks in the Comox Valley, including the City of Courtenay and Town of Comox. Our ISA Certified Arborist plans every job with full WorkSafeBC coverage. We check local rules for your lot before providing a price.

We work four separate permit authorities inside one small valley, and working out which one covers your address is most of the job before a saw ever starts. Tree work in the Comox Valley is as much paperwork as it is climbing. We quote from what our crew finds on your property — the lean, the access, what's under the tree — and from what the authority covering your address requires before we can get a cutting permit. That last part usually decides whether the job can start the day it's booked or has to wait on an application. The person who walks your property and quotes the work plans the job and performs the cutting on site. Having the same person inspect and execute the removal ensures every drop zone and rigging point is mapped out in advance.

Who does the work?

We remove trees, grind stumps, prune branches and clear storm damage across Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Royston, Merville, Black Creek and Union Bay. Our ISA Certified Arborist assesses every project before we issue a quote, applying the same safety standards to single limbs as to major removals. We back our tree service with an ISA Certified Arborist qualification, full liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage on every property we visit.

We bring the same gear to every property: a chipper for brush, rigging systems for trees that must come down in sections, and a grinder for the remaining stump. We stack or haul the wood rounds and rake the area clean. The work itself is the same on every property. What changes is the paperwork we have to clear before the first cut. We book saw work around the weather rather than the calendar. We call off a climb for wind, not rain. Rain is just uncomfortable — a gusting southeasterly is what sets a rigged section swinging on the rope, and that's when we stop. If we move your date, that is usually why.

Why does the permit authority matter so much here?

Because it's four different answers depending on which street you're on. The City of Courtenay measures your tree in centimetres and cares about species. The Town of Comox does too, at a different threshold. Cumberland doesn't ask for a permit on private land at all. The rural addresses beyond those three sit in Comox Valley Regional District electoral areas, where development permit areas cover the ground instead of a tree bylaw. We check which of the four applies before we quote, not after.

What happens on the day?

We measure the tree, confirm the permit position, and only then give you a price. If a storm has brought a stem down or left a trunk leaning over your roof or power line, tell us when you call. Text or call (778) 909-5126 to start, and tell us what you are looking at. Two minutes on the phone usually settles whether the job needs a site visit at all, or whether a photo answers it.

We itemize your estimate into removal, stump grinding and debris cleanup so you see exact line costs. We calculate your price after inspecting the tree crown, checking overhead lines and confirming machine access. Access usually moves the price more than height does — how close we can get the truck and the chipper, whether we're carrying wood through a gate or a yard. A photo never shows us that. We check it in person before we quote.
