Pruning and trimming in Courtenay
Courtenay Tree Removal provides pruning and trimming across the Comox Valley using ANSI A300 standards. We clear deadwood and roof space while keeping your trees healthy. With pruning, we'd rather cut too little than too much — we can always come back for a second pass. A tree closes a cut with its own energy, and taking too much at once costs it the reserves it needs to do that.
How much can come off at once?
Less than most people expect. We take deadwood freely, because the tree has already written it off, but live crown comes off sparingly and in stages across seasons if there is a lot to do. A tree stripped hard in one visit responds with weak, upright regrowth that is worse than what you started with.
Will pruning fix a leaning tree?
Usually not. If your tree is leaning because it has grown top-heavy, we can take weight out of the crown and buy it time. If it is leaning because the root plate has shifted, pruning does nothing for it — the problem is in the ground, not the branches. When the lean is new, we would rather have it looked at as a danger tree than prune it and leave the real question unanswered.
What about the branch over the power line?
If branches sit within 3 metres of lines carrying 750 volts to 75 kV, WorkSafeBC requires BC Hydro to handle the trimming. For lines under 750 volts, BC Hydro guidance sets the safe clearance limit at 1 metre. If you cannot tell which line is which, call BC Hydro and ask. They will tell you over the phone, and until they have, treat every line as the live one.

Do you top trees?
No. Topping creates weak regrowth and shortens the life of the tree.
Can you prune a neighbour's branch over my fence?
Up to the property line, with their tree still their tree. We will tell you where that line falls.
